A Night with Joe Mama
To my slight surprise, I met JM a night early. I sort of knew this might happen. I figured Jack was conspiring to trick me because I had been so nervous. I think he was afraid I would end up not going on Saturday.
So Jack and I had dinner with Hurryup and Mrs. Hurryup and then we headed over to the Old Town for drinks. It was rumored that various people might show up there, including Damaniac and Ken and Shumway. Jack had told me repeatedly that he knew nothing about JM and hadn't talked to him all day.
I felt both surprised and not surprised when he walked in with Shumway and introduced himself. He sat down next to me and I found it a little difficult to talk to him because I was... well, nervous. I was sitting next to my husband. I couldn't exactly climb onto JM's lap, right? Not that that thought ever remotely crossed my mind!
For the next couple hours we all sat around and drank and laughed at stories from the board, punctuated by Damaniac arriving and saying that he had been there for an hour looking for us, but had been "thrown off by the presence of women" in our group.
It's really difficult to do justice to someone like JM after meeting him in a noisy bar where I couldn't really talk to him. I can say that he mostly doesn't have a Canadian accent, except a very tiny one when he says "out" and "about". He is not fat or old. He's cute and charming. (Mrs. Hurryup and I agreed about that.) He was wearing torn jeans as someone on the board pointed out, but torn jeans are coming back in. Check out the Gap and you'll see that this is so. (But don't let Jack find out that you shop there because we are technically boycotting the Gap--bad labor practices.)
Jack took some pics, but I don't want to post them here. They were posted on the board, but I think it's safer for them to scroll off. (If enough requests come in and the people in the pics don't mind, I may post a picture later.)
Right now Jack, JM, Shumway and Rich are out tailgating. So I may update you later, if I end up meeting them after the game.
